Tuscan Tasting – 30£ – W1F
Tuscany is home to Italy’s most famous wines, from Sangiovese-based Chianti & Brunello with their rich cultural history; to the more recently acclaimed Supertuscans which, preferring non-native varieties of Cabernet and Merlot, have attained a cult following globally.
There are many types and styles of Tuscan wines, which can vary markedly from producer to producer, but there is definitely one for you! We have gathered together a selection of our favourite estates: Some famous names, some exciting new discoveries, and will be showcasing their latest vintage releases. We will also have a few maturing bottles from some, to demonstrate the benefit of buying on release but then cellaring to allow the wines to blossom.
We will be joined by winemakers and representatives of the wines on taste to help broaden your knowledge further and bring the region to life.
On show will be the following estates:
- Castello di Romitorio – This historic estate, with some of Montalcino’s highest planted vineyards, makes wonderfully perfumed, well-defined, complex and sophisticated Brunello.
- Mastrojannni – an acclaimed estate in the south of Montalcino that balances traditional and modern winemaking to produce rich, powerful, savoury and age-worthy Brunello.
- MonteVerro – an exciting project in the Maremma, jockeying to join the top table of Supertuscans, specialising in Bordeaux blends, with a refreshing emphasis on Cabernet Franc.
- Quercia al Poggio – A family run Chianti Classico producer in Barberino Val d’Elsa, farming organically and producing wines of great authenticity, purity and focus.
- Tenuta di Gracciano della Seta – One of the oldest estates in Montepulciano, making ripe but elegant wines combining freshness, sapidity and earthy spiciness.
- Valdicava – One of Montalcino’s modernising trailblazers, these regularly 100-point scoring iconic wines need no further introduction to lovers of great Brunello.
